So what is a leader? Let's get specific about what it takes for you to be looked at as a leader. You must offer a clear-cut path in a single direction. You can't just offer a choice because people will get into a debate inside their own mind about it. They feel they don't have enough experience to make a good choice, and nothing will happen. The way their thinking goes, they don't know how to get to where they want to be. They will be totally happy following, so long as you grab the lead. Just tell them exactly what they must do. Then their only choice is to follow you or not.
For people to follow you, you must have chosen a path you have very strong belief in. You need total certainty, because any doubt in your voice or in your actions comes through loud and clear to everyone who is looking at you. If you demonstrate the single-minded will to lead in one definite direction, then you have a real opportunity to gather followers. On the other hand, if you run around in several different directions, then people will keep on looking for a leader.
A smart leader knows they can't make anyone do anything for very long. Your team must want to follow you, or it will all fall apart. You promise very specific results, and you spotlight a step-by-step plan to achieve them. It's important to point the way for each team member to walk (or run) their chosen path. When you truly capture the minds and hearts of team members, they subscribe to your plan and commit to their assigned roles … because by doing so, they can picture themselves achieving their life's dream.

Patience & Urgency
MLM success often seems to be a mix of patience and urgency. When you know you've made the correct long-term choices, then you can be patient. BUT - now you have to act with great urgency. Your team has got to see good things happening, or they will head off on their merry way, looking for greener pastures. You have to immerse them on belief.
Give them every chance to not believe. You have to know this sooner rather than later. Once you believe in their belief, then talk about patience ... the need to plan long-term. And finally. Tell them to act with urgency.
It seems natural to think we have all the time in the world. And that thought lets us wander down some interesting side streets, rather than making a beeline for our goal ... which is the real reason 19 out of 20 people fail to achieve what they want in life. To get what you want, you have to know exactly what it is - and then act with urgency to achieve it.
You have to act like you have very limited time. The only plan that works is a very, very tight focus on your fondest desire.. Once you achieve that goal, you can go ahead and wander the back roads if you want. But first, focus only on your goal until you have it.
Let's bring this all together. First yourself have to walk the talk. People need to see you as the role model for "patient urgency." We all have many years of bad habits to overcome. The greatest urgency for your MLM future is to change these habits. Identify the worst of the lot, and map out a plan to replace them. Start NOW.
Maybe the most helpful tool you'll find is the book "The Slight Edge", by Jeff Olson. You learn to make little changes that combine to make a big difference. You can spend just 2 or 3 minutes a day, if you do it consistently every day, and over time, it will change your life. And the biggest change you can focus on is ... getting more urgency into pursuing your MLM opportunity. That's where you'll get the biggest, fastest payback from.

Successful Leaders
Look around at who is successful in MLM, and you will see they are all leaders. The only way you can become a leader is to find someone who will follow your lead. The one way that can happen is if THEY consider you to be the all-knowing guru who will tell them the MLM success secret. Everybody wants a leader who truly believes. If you can mine your own bedrock core level of inner belief, it will amaze you how many people YOU can inspire. MLMers will look to you as a leader, because true motivational leaders are almost impossible to find. For people to see you as a wizard in network marketing, all you need is deep, deep, deep belief.
I'll bet you think this doesn't apply to you. Maybe you think you are on the other side of this deal, one of the masses looking for that leader. But here's the thing. When you have that rock-solid, core belief, it doesn't matter that you've never been looked at as a leader before. You will inspire people and they will follow you. And as distant as that idea of solid belief may seem right now, it's just a matter of some intensive coaching and some dedicated practice to actually reach it. You don't have to be anything close to flawless to help a lot of people turn their lives around. They are looking for the right model. You can become their network marketing leader, but only if you learn to really drill down into your steel-hard core belief.
So the question is, how do you get there from here? You see the people around you, and there just is no one who would follow you. And even if they would, you're at least a bit confused as to where you would lead them. Maybe you have some possibilities, but there's just no certainty that's strong enough to inspire very many people. Worse, you have your own moments of self-doubt when you think it's all hopeless, that you will never get to the place you want in life. Success is so far away, it's almost like a dream.
